Viz of the Month: October 2024

About this viz: This Venn diagram shows the overlap between two modifiable risk factors: ever having smoked, and not exercising ("no exercise" in the diagram above). A modifiable risk factor is a risk factor that can be changed. These two risk factors have been shown to be associated with multiple health outcomes.


This viz uses data from the California Teachers Study baseline survey (Questionnaire 1, 1995-1996) to show the percentage of respondents who had two important risk factors at study enrollment. Nearly 5% of CTS participants reported zero hours a week of exercise a week and said they were current or former smokers.
