American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a community-based voluntary health organization. The American Cancer Society has a number of resources on their website, including information about cancer, screening guidelines, programs and services for cancer support and treatment, and research findings.
California Cancer Registry
The California Cancer Registry (CCR) is California’s statewide population-based cancer surveillance system. The CCR collects information on almost every cancer diagnosed in California.
The California Teachers Study collaborates with the CCR to receive up-to-date data on the cancer diagnoses of our participants, which allows us to examine the risk factors for different types of cancers among our cohort.
California State Teachers Retirement System
The California State Teachers Retirement System (CALSTRS) membership includes California public school professionals who teach, are involved in selecting or preparing instructional materials, or supervise persons engaged in those activities. All public school employees, ranging from kindergarten through community college, must pay into CalSTRS; they receive retirement benefits through CalSTRS and are CalSTRS members for as long as their retirement contributions are at CalSTRS.
California Teachers Association
The California Teachers Association (CTA) is the union that represents education employees working in public school districts, community colleges and universities.
California Federation of Teachers
The California Federation of Teachers (CFT) is made up of local unions chartered by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
National Cancer Institute
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) provides support for research and training needs for the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The NCI has provided the California Teachers Study with support through a number of grants since the study’s inception.
