This 2019 study found second-hand smoking (SHS) exposure to be associated with a higher risk of type II diabetes among non-smoking California teachers. Greater SHS exposure has been previously suspected to be associated with increased waist circumference and BMI, which could explain much of the relationship between SHS and type II diabetes. This 2024 study examined whether diabetes is associated with an increased risk of dying from dementia or dying from other non-dementia causes. The researchers found CTS participants with diabetes had an increased risk of death from dementia as well as death from other causes unrelated to dementia. Read more here.
